For this assignment I had to create and infographic that illustrated a process. I chose to illustrate the process of straightening hair to create a sleek and simple hair style. I realized my target group be young tween to teen aged girls. I want my infographic to be simple, elegant as well as fun and eye-catching, similar to the hair style my graphic would be presenting.

I really wanted to create a simple, elegant and easy to understand infographic. To achieve this I knew I would have to have clean lines, spaces and text. I tried out many different layouts for my infographic until I found the perfect layout which allowed me to have all of the elements (text, images and titles) on the A4 page without it being overwhelming. I used the ruler tool to make sure that all of my text and images were lining up perfectly. I also think the rule tool helped me make sure that the flow of my infographic was easy to follow and understand because, with the rule tool out I really had to think about where and why I was placing text and images. I created contrast between texts by making them different sizes; with important words of phrases being bigger and more eye-catching. Over all I think I did a good job of creating a nice composition.

In my A8 business card I have used a font called Dolce-Vita from I liked it a lot and wanted to use it because of its sharp and simple lines. As I’ve said before, the overall theme of my assignment is ‘simple and easy’. I feel like Dolce-Vita translates this theme perfectly. It’s bold and eye catching because all of the letters are in caps, yet it is easy to read and isn’t too aggressive. I have also used this font in my A4 infographic. However, I have only used it on the word ‘straight’ which is in the title of my infographic. It is the biggest word/text in the whole graphic. I chose to use it this way because I didn’t want to overwhelm the graphic with too much of the large text so by only using it on the word ‘straight’ I can grab people attention while also summerising the whole point of the info graphic. I used the font Orator Std Medium in the other parts of my infographic title. This is an all caps font that goes well with the Dolce-Vita font.   The mass of my text is dedicated to the instructions I have written for straightening hair. I was tempted to use Orator Std Medium for all of my instructions though; I remembered during week 9 Shavani taught us that having all caps text could be seen as aggressive and overall just be unappealing to look at. So, I chose the font Myraid Pro instead. I think all of my fonts work well together and I’m happy with the outcome.

I kept my colour scheme simple, easy and girly. I wanted my infographic to be eye catching and appealing to my tween-teen girls target group so I went with a pinky, purple scheme. I used a gradient in the back ground of my infographic. I wanted to use a gradient instead of a soild colour because my small images (of the girl doing her hair) are all black. I think if I were to leave my background as one solid colour my whole graphic would look flat and boring. To make my business card a little different I made three triangles on the business cards background and filled each with one colour from the gradient used on my A4 graphic. To me this just made the infographic and business cards different and unique while still obviously being part of the same whole.

I decided to hand draw my images. I wanted my graphic to look as good as it could possibly be and I knew my drawing skills on illustrator weren’t very good. After hand drawing my images I scanned them and placed them into Illustrator. There I used the ‘Image Trace’ key and ‘Expand’ key to turn them into bold images with vector points. By doing this I had the option to change or remove any parts of the images I didn’t want. I could even change the colours of them if I wanted to. However, I decided to keep them simple and black.  I’m really happy with the outcome and I’m glad I chose to create my images this way.
